Peoria sits in the West Valley of the Phoenix area, a desert city that grew from farmland into one of Arizona's larger suburbs. Lake Pleasant Regional Park, just north of the city, offers boating, fishing, and desert trails around a large reservoir in the hills. Old Town Peoria keeps a small main street with shops and restaurants, a reminder of the farming town the suburb grew from. Each spring, the Peoria Sports Complex hosts two major league baseball teams for spring training, filling the ballpark with fans and the smell of fresh cut grass.
