Orange is centered on the Old Towne Orange Circle, a roundabout plaza surrounded by historic buildings, antique shops, and cafes. The district is one of the largest nationally registered historic districts in California, and its streets still follow the pattern laid out in the nineteenth century. Chapman University, founded in 1861, brings students and cultural events to the city, and the surrounding neighborhoods mix Craftsman homes with newer development. The Orange County region gives the city easy access to beaches, parks, and larger cities, while Old Towne keeps a small town feel.
