Oceanside sits on the San Diego County coast, a beach city of piers, surf, and mission history. The Oceanside Pier, one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast, stretches into the Pacific with a restaurant at its end and fishermen along its rails. The California Surf Museum, near the pier, honors the sport's history and its local legends. Mission San Luis Rey, just inland, is a historic Spanish mission with gardens and a museum, and Oceanside Harbor offers boating, shops, and seafood restaurants. Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps base, sits just north of the city.
