Fall River takes its name from the Quequechan River, whose falls once powered textile mills that shaped the city and drew workers from many countries. Mill buildings still line the landscape, and Fall River Heritage State Park on the Taunton River waterfront gives visitors open space, views, and a visitor center for the region. Battleship Cove keeps historic naval ships on the water, including the battleship Massachusetts, and invites visitors to walk decks that once carried sailors across oceans.
